Birthday Party Fever

The count down is on until my big boys 5th birthday party. Here is a sneak peak of some of the things I have been putting together …

Fabric Paint

A few months back (actually almost a year ago) I purchased some freezer paper and fabric paint from Spotlight. I had this vision of making t-shirts with horse images on them for my little princess.

Well, I finally put my purchase to use. Below is my first project …

I was super happy with the outcome of my t-shirt design.

T-Shirt Scarf

Yesterday was our fortnightly Craft and Chat Session and we made scarfs out of old t-shirts. I think when I make another one I will have to ‘tweak’ it a bit, but again once you know what you are doing it is very simple.

Firstly you need two old t-shirts (different colours). With the t-shirt laid out flat you need to cut out two long strips (this will give you for strips of fabric). Repeat this step again, but this time you just need one strip (this gives you two).

Sew your pairs together, to make three long pieces of fabric. Square off tops and bottoms. Place each piece of fabric on top of each other and sew a straight line across to join all layers. Sticky tape the top of this edge to a table and plait (like a hair braid) until you get about half way. When you have done this sew another seam under the plait to keep it all in place. Now you can join your ends together and their you have your t-shirt scarf.

This is where it all happens. This picture shows Nancy and Veronica making chocolates for Easter.

Teacher for a day

IMG_6543

Today I got to take our Craft and Chat class, as the lady who normally takes it was unable to come in. So I raided the craft supply cupboard with a few minutes to spare and decided on teaching the mum’s how to make flower embellishments. It was heads down, tails up the whole two hours I took the class. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I think the flowers were a big hit. Maybe they will ask me back for a guest appearance 🙂

Great minds think alike

MEL MADE

I made this dress for my little princess about a year ago. I purchased the fabric and self covering buttons from Spotlight (my photography doesn’t do it justice).

Then just the other day when I was ‘Googling’ something, I came across this dress.

It is like the Twilight Zone [insert freaky tune here].

The Star Wars Saga Begins …

IMG_6526

In a galaxy not so far away, there lives a boy who is mad about Star Wars.

With only two months until my boys 5th birthday I have gone in to warp speed, trying to come up with Star Wars party ideas.

First things first, I knew I wanted to go crazy stamping the Star Wars logo everywhere. So I have made yet another stamp using foam and an old piece of wood. I don’t know how I have survived this long with out using this technique.

Next is a life size paper mache R2D2 (that is almost completed, stay tuned).

Unicorn cookie cutter

IMG_6467

I have been busting out the designs in my 3D printing program. Last weeks challenge was to make a unicorn cookie cutter for my little girls birthday dinner. With just a smidgen of help from my partner and a few hours later, I had not only designed, but printed out my biscuit cutter.

I also had my wonderful partner print out some unicorn pendants that for some reason didn’t come out very well. But that was okay, nothing a bit of paint and glitter can’t fix.

Make your own stamp

IMG_6310

My first lesson with the ‘Craft & Chat’ gang was how to make your own wrapping paper. I wasn’t so excited about the wrapping paper, but making my very own stamp excited me (it doesn’t take much).

Here is how we tackled it …

I even got creative and revamped my birthday bunting from last year.

I am going to use my new found knowledge and make some t-shirts with personalized images on them. Although I just used good old acrylic paint for the bunting, I do have million dollar fabric paint that at the time I had to have but still haven’t used (12 months later).

T-Shirt Tote Bags

Every second Tuesday our local Children’s Centre has a ‘Craft & Chat’ session. Today was my second appearance and gosh I loved it. Not only do we get to make some awesome things, I get to chat and drink coffee with some awesome ladies.

Today we made bags out of old t-shirts. It has to be the simplest, funkiest, quickest and most fun I have had we a sewing machine in a while.

Below is a run down on how to ‘knock’ one up …

Presto, a shopping bag made in a few minutes.

Paper Mache Unicorn

IMG_6362

What do you give the girl that has every form of horse, pony, donkey, zebra and unicorn … A paper mache unicorn head.

I wanted to give my girl something very different for her third birthday. I decided that we probably couldn’t fit any more ‘wo wo’s (as my little girl calls them) on her bedroom floor, but we could hang one up on her wall. I searched the interwobble for paper mache horse heads and found this awesome tutorial on how to make a unicorn.

Below are the steps I went through to make this awesome unicorn.

After step nine, I attached the head to the board with glue and a staple gun and then left it to dry. The next day I touched up the staple holes with tissue paper and glitter, added some rainbow eyelashes and my masterpiece was complete.

I had one very happy little unicorn lover.
