A winter warmer

IMG_7309Well, I think the cold weather has well and truly set in. What better time than to crochet a cowl/scarf.

I found this free pattern on fiberfluxblogspot.com

For my cowl, I used wool from Spotlight (Bailey) and a 10mm crochet hook.

What I like about crocheting is it is so forgiving and once you know the basic stitches you can go wild ๐Ÿ™‚

Bringing artwork to life

IMG_7196This idea was first proposed to me a while back. I haven’t had the motivation/inspiration to do it, until now.

I gave my daughter a piece of A3 paper and some drawing utensils and asked her to draw me a picture, for no other reason other than I needed her out of my hair for half an hour. Bella came back with this most magnificent picture. I still hadn’t finished what I was doing, so I gave her a red texta and asked her to draw another picture on the back. Boom! I was inspired by this little guy who she named as her brother ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_7179I traced the image on to another sheet of paper, grabbed all my materials and began bringing her brother to life …

My girl couldn’t wait to sleep with her new brother ๐Ÿ™‚

Crochet Necklace/Cowl

IMG_7175

After making my Broomstick Lace bracelet, I wanted to have a go at a necklace. I came across a very simple tutorial, unfortunately the material they had used is hard to get a hold of (Zpaghetti recycled t-shirt material). I proceeded to Spotlight and found some Moda Vera Filou 100% Cotton yarn, hoping this would do the trick.

IMG_7173

ย Ingredients

Moda Vera Filou 100% Cotton yarn 50g
8mm crochet hook
Scissors
2 buttons
matching cotton

IMG_7169

First step is to chain stitch, chain stitch, chain stitch. I ended up chaining the whole 50g of yarn.

IMG_7170When you have your desired length, loop around your neck. Then slip stitch the ends together and add a couple of single crochets.

IMG_7176Single crochet a square to wrap around your loops and add a couple of buttons and there you have it.

Broomstick Lace Bracelet

Broomstick lace, also known as jiffy lace and peacock eye crochet, is a historic crochet technique from the 19th century which is done using a crochet hook and another long slender item such as a knitting needle. Traditionally a broomstick was used, hence the name, but the modern variant is a lightweight plastic knitting needle or smooth wooden craft dowel. A larger knitting needle or dowel will result in a lacier effect, while a smaller will provide a more closely woven effect. Because the fabric created is soft yet stable, it is well-suited for clothing and blankets.

Twice in the past few months I have seen this photo tutorial pop up on Facebook and I just had to give it a go. This is my first time, so I just used some acrylic wool, my next one will be cotton (so you can see more detail).

I strongly advise you if you have never attempted this before to use a video tutorial, I found just the images a little hard to get.

Here are some of my stages …

Not Star Wars

The last few months have been Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars. So it has been very nice indeed to play around with some different materials …

Punky Brewster hair model.

Fantastic looking outfit.

Thank you for the great pictures, your outfit looks awesome.

You make the hair bands look good ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe I should have a go at some other designs??????

HOBO BAG

IMG_7061

Tomorrow is Craft and Chat at the Centre, but due to a pupil free day, I have decided to spend the afternoon with both my children (worlds best mum right here). Our new teacher was going to show us how to sew a bag from scrap material. I really, really, really wanted to sew a bag, so I did. I Googled for what seemed like an eternity and found all links led to this Hobo Bag. The bag is reversible, but I am boring and kept the inside and outside the same.

This bag took me only a couple of hours to make and the tutorial is pretty easy to understand. I did mess up on my first bag, but it still resembled a bag. I also learned how to sew a dart (again I just Googled this).

Here are a few pics to show you how easy it is (if I can do it, you can).

So if you are interested in making this bag please click here Hobo Bag. The tutorial comes with a pattern pdf and step by step instructions.

Work Vests

IMG_6732

I was asked if I could make some high visibility vests for the Kindy kids, for sure.

I was supplied a pattern (which I ended up re drafting) and some high visibility material. Now, I am no hemmer, so thankfully I have my trusty little bias tape maker and a 20ยข brown fitted sheet.

IMG_6727.. And hey presto I have meters and meters of bias tape to go around the raw edges of the vest. I even brought the big guns out (over locker).

I managed to get out five vests over a couple of nights. I must admit, I am pretty good at attaching the bias tape when I pay attention ๐Ÿ™‚

I am going to use this pattern again to make a horse riding outfit for my little girl and maybe a cowboy outfit for the boy – if he will wear it.

Darth Vader B’day Cake

My first and last Darth Vader cake …

Punky Brewster Hair Bands

IMG_6680Yes, I make to order (within my capabilities).

A friend of ours wanted some Punky Brewster style hair ties for her daughter. I was sent an image of said hair ties and off I went.

I am not much of an embroider, but I think they look like the picture I was sent ๐Ÿ™‚
